Study description
We would like to invite you to a user study, where we investigate different representations of player health in VR shooters.
The study takes approximately 30 minutes and can be done fully independently. You can participate by downloading the VR shooter and playing through it while following on-screen instructions.
In this VR game, players will attempt to shoot at enemy drones and avoid getting hit by their lasers. During the game, your health status will be displayed in one of three ways. Your task is to play a brief session with all three health representations and provide feedback about your experience.
The three health systems are:
- Wristwatch: A watch on your left hand will show your current health.
- Movement Based: Your movement gets slower as your health gets lower and also your hands will tremble slightly when you get shot.
- Overlay: A health bar will be displayed on the screen.
In the game, you can choose one health system at a time and play the game. The game will end after 4 minutes or when your health reaches zero. After the game, a questionnaire is automatically opened up on your browser; please take off your headset and fill in the questionnaire. Repeat this procedure until you have completed all three health variants.
The game has been tested with the HTC Vive Pro and Oculus Rift S; however, a larger selection of VR devices should be supported.
